Herbarium Digitization Intern, New York Botanical Garden

This is a temporary full time position. The Herbarium Digitization Intern will assist with the imaging and databasing of carnivorous, epiphytic, and succulent plant herbarium specimens in the William and Lynda Steere Herbarium as a part of a multi-institutional NSF-funded project: Digitization TCN: “endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful”: Facilitating Research on Imperiled Plants with Extreme Morphologies.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Barcode specimens for digitization
  • Capture digital images of specimens
  • Transcribe specimen data from digital images into database
  • Handle (select and refile) herbarium specimens

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Coursework in biology.
  • Experience with digital photography and herbarium procedures preferred.
  • Current undergraduate (within one year of graduation), graduate student, or recent graduate.
  • Ability to work closely with others as a part of a team.
  • Ability to work efficiently and with attention to detail.
