I am writing to you directly in the hope that you will distribute information to faculty and students about 2015 summer internships we are offering in horticultural services and sustainability at the National Gallery of Art. Interns receive a stipend of $4,500 for the nine-week summer program. Here are the descriptions:
Horticultural Services
The intern’s time will be divided between daily overall horticulture duties and a project collecting historical information for the horticultural services database. The intern will work on the Gallery’s exterior landscapes and interior “plantscapes,” including the greenhouses. The intern will also help the deputy chief in researching and compiling historical information from Gallery Archives, and entering data in the horticultural services database. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and excellent writing and editing skills are desired. Current graduate students in horticulture and 2015 graduates with a relevant bachelor’s degree are invited to apply.
Facilities Management: Sustainability
The intern will develop and/or refine Sustainability Performance Annual Report Card for the National Gallery of Art based on its Strategic Sustainability Performance Plan. The intern will work with the Sustainability Office in the Facilities Management Division. The report card will include accomplishments and tracking metrics for energy consumption, greenhouse gas emission, recycling, customer service, and energy conservation measure projects. The intern must be proficient in English and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access). The intern should be able to work independently, with assistance from and in consultation with facilities management professional staff. Current graduate students in relevant disciplines and 2015 graduates with a relevant bachelor’s degree are invited to apply.
